In a recent press conference, Rian Johnson, who is the director of this December’s and the year’s biggest release, Star War: The Last Jedi, confirmed that the upcoming film will be the longest one in the history of Star Wars films! Episode VIII, or The Last Jedi will be having a running time of exactly 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes).
Before The Last Jedi, the longest Star Wars film was 2002’s George Lucas’s prequel Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones, which clocked at 2 hours and 32 minutes (142 minutes).
Director Johnson told during the conference, “Disney gave us a real freedom in writing. It was something very organic. For me, it was like when I worked on my old movies.”
When compared to its prequel, 2015’s Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi will be 15 extra-minutes longer. The Force Awakens was 2 hours 15 minutes long (135 minutes).
