Bill Paxton, the actor known for starring in films like “The Terminator” and “Titanic”, died at the age of 61. According to a statement released by his family, Bill died due to complications from a heart surgery.
A representative from his family stated, “It is with heavy hearts we share, that Bill Paxton has died due to complications from his heart surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Paxton’s family requested for some privacy and stated, “Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father”.
Paxton started his Hollywood career in the 1970s by playing minor roles but he won over the audience and his first notable performance came in The Terminator in 1984 and was swiftly followed up with roles in Weird Science, Aliens and Near Dark. The American actor also developed a close working relationship with the director James Cameron, and went on to work in True Lies and Titanic. Paxton also had an illustrious career on television which won him an Emmy nomination for his role on the History Channel miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys.” His final film “The Circle,” slated for release on April 28, is based on the novel by Dave Eggers. It stars Paxton alongside actors Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
Paxton’s loss is mourned by many actors and directors, with James Cameron stating, “The world is a lesser place for his passing.” In a statement Cameron said, “I hope that amid the gaudy din of Oscar night, people will take a moment to remember this wonderful man, not just for all the hours of joy he brought to us with his vivid screen presence, but for the great human that he was.” Saddened by this loss, actor Tom Hanks tweeted to call Paxton, “a wonderful man”.
Being the generous man that he was, Paxton once said, “I’ve been so blessed to get paid to do something I love to do”. Paxton is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Newbury.
