Finally, there’s another phone by Xiaomi under its Redmi range-but this time, its here to give a tough competition to some other phone that, probably and certainly, took the ‘budget flagship king’ crown from Redmi Note 5 Pro and other Xiaomi phones, last month. If you are not able to remember then, that phone is Oppo’s superbeast, RealMe 1, which shook the budget range market very hard!
RealMe 1, since the time of its launch got rave reviews and appreciation from both the phone analysts and consumers, combined for its fantastic performance and smooth experience.
But, we were talking about the new Redmi phone, which is the Y2 and it has now been just launched by Xiaomi, a few days ago, to compete back, with the now popular RealMe 1.
Talking straight about the new Y2 model, it is the successor to last year’s Redmi Y1 (or Mi Y1), and is launched with similar specs and design of Redmi S2, which was just released in China, a month ago.
Configuration
Redmi Y2 comes with a Snapdragon 625 octa-core 14nm processor-similar to Redmi Note 5. Well, it is not the most powerful Soc out there, at the moment, but does provides an efficient performance, clocking at 2.0 GHz combined with Adreno 506 GPU. The screen is a 5.99inch HD+ (720×1440 resolution) with an aspect ratio of 18:9-they should have provided with a Full HD one, since its straight rival Oppo RealMe 1 comes with the same screen size, but having a ‘Full HD resolution’.
There is also Reading Mode and temperature adjustment, like previous Xiaomi phones.
Face Unlock
This Xiaomi phone also comes with the now popular ‘Face Unlock’ feature too (similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro), along with a ‘Finger Print’ sensor, on the back. And the face unlock feature is okay but not very much quick, since it takes around a second-it’s not that fast-again, RealMe 1 beats it since the phone’s Face Recognition ability is brilliantly faster.
Camera
The main highlighting point of Redmi Y2 is the camera (again, like its predecessors, Note 5 and Note 5 Pro), having a 16MP front lens for selfies and great pictures, powered by AI Beautify 4.0 feature. Fow low-light pics, the front camera also has an LED flash.
On the rear, there is a surprise, with a dual-camera setup! There is a 12MP+5MP lens. The 5MP lens is for creating the bokeh and AI portrait effect and depth of field effect. The rear camera also supports Full HD video recording.
Coming towards the variants of the phone, then the Redmi Y2 will be available in two versions-one with 3GBRAM/32GB storage and other one with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The battery capacity is 3080mAh which is non-removable. The OS platform is backed up by the latest Android Oreo 8.1 running on Xiaomi’s own latest version of MIUI 9.5.
Price
Now, talking about the most important aspect, Mi Y2 will be available for Rs.9,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant, while the 4GB/64GB variant will be available for Rs.12,999. The phone will be sold online via Amazon and the sale will start on June 12th, 2018 i.e. next week.
