A still from Blade Runner 2049's iconic scene

There is an ongoing debate about Blade Runner 2049-is it a masterpiece or an attempt to showcase futuristic trends? Audiences have their own views which they might have shown by their lukewarm response to the film, resulting in a very disappointing box-office performance by the Dennis Villeneuve sci-fi sequel to 1982’s Harrison Ford starrer and directed by Ridley Scott.

Well, apart from the matters discussed above there’s one more secret about this, otherwise masterly-crafted movie. And that’s in its name.

Do you know what Blade Runner 2049 was to be called, actually, during its filming?

According to Geektyrant.com, Andrew Cosgrove, the Alcon Entertainment rep, during a recent interview with Monsters and Critics, revealed that the current title, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ was never a standard title. And that a different name was planned for the movie, instead.

And the original title of this great sequel was, Blade Runner: Androids Dream, which Cosgrove had in mind but had a reason to change it.

I actually really like that title but with the benefit of hindsight, I’m very happy we ended up with the title we did because I think it’s a little leading.

The screenwriter for the film, Michael Green also explained about this title-shift:

When Hampton wrote his treatment and draft, he titled it Acid Zoo, which is a terrific title. For a while that was their working title. He doesn’t know this, when I started working on it, the working title was ‘Queensboro’ because I always considered myself a New Yorker. I lived in Manhattan and I was on my way there. I know Hampton lives in Brooklyn and I was on my way, had my laptop on my lap in a cab and I’m like ‘all right, it’s the bridge between the two’. So for a long time, the working title was Queensboro.

And that was all about that ‘Blade Runner 2049’s title tale.’

What do you think? Is the current title for the film good or the old choice was a better one? And what else do you think about Blade Runner 2049?
