After launching the new-age XE petrol variant in India, Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JRL) India on Monday launched the diesel variant of its entry-level XE sedan with 2.0-litre diesel engine in India at a price tag of Rs. 38.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The diesel variant of the Jaguar XE sedan is only a lakh rupee more expensive than the petrol variant which is priced at Rs 37.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings for the new Jaguar XE diesel variant have already begun across the 24 Jaguar authorised showrooms in India for about Rs. 2 lakh and deliveries for the car will also start soon. Like the petrol version, the new offering is available in three variants – Pure, Prestige and Portfolio. Jaguar XE 2.0L Diesel Pure has been priced at Rs 38.25 lakh, Jaguar XE 2.0L Diesel Prestige is priced at Rs 42.04 lakh, while the Jaguar XE 2.0L Diesel Portfolio variant will be made available in the Indian auto market at Rs 46.34 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom Delhi).

Commenting on the launch, Jaguar Land Rover India managing director Rohit Suri said, “The XE has been a very successful model from the Jaguar family. With the Jaguar XE diesel, we are confident of further expanding our customer base in the country.”

In terms of design and features, the Jaguar XE diesel variant is similar to its petrol-powered sibling. The new Jaguar XE diesel version is based on Jaguar’s light-weight Aluminum Architecture, which is from the aerospace industry to deliver premium vehicle characteristics in performance and refinement, demonstrating the true sporting character of the company’s iconic sports coupe, the Jaguar F-TYPE.

Talking about its features, the Jaguar XE diesel has exciting features such as Jaguar Drive Control™, 8-Speed Automatic Transmission, Torque Vectoring by Braking, and All Surface Progress Control. Jaguar Drive Control™ system allows driver to choose between different driving modes like Normal, Eco, Dynamic modes, Rain, Ice, Snow modes, each subtly changing the steering and throttle mapping. Talking about its inside cabin, there is an 8-inch (20.32 cm) Touch Screen with InControl Touch Infotainment System that supports Navigation, Bluetooth, USB, AUX and any smartphone connectivity. Some of the other features of the car include 380-Watt Meridian sound system, Sliding Panoramic Sunroof, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Mist Sensing, Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror, Steering Mounted Control Panels, 10-way Electric Front Seats, Four-Way Lumbar support and a 12v Power Sockets.

Talking about its mechanical department, the Jaguar XE diesel is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine that generates 180PS (32 kW) power at 4,000rpm and a massive 430Nm of peak torque at from 1,750rpm to 2,500rpm. As for the transmission, the engine is mated to eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters as standard. Compared to its German rival, the Jaguar XE develops 10hp higher power than the entry-level Mercedes C 220d, and 10hp lesser power than the Audi A4 35 TDI and the BMW 320d. The diesel-powered Jaguar XE need only 7.8 seconds to reach 100kmph from engine start and has a top speed of 228km per hour. The new offering has a fuel tank capacity of 56 litre and the gross vehicle weight is around 2135 kg.

In terms of safety, the Jaguar XE diesel offers an Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Pedestrian Contact Sensing, Whiplash Protection, ISOFIX for child safety and Hazard lights under heavy braking. Safety features in the Jaguar XE diesel also include a front side airbag, full-length side window curtain, driver and front passenger side airbag, with seat occupant detector.

The Jaguar range in India currently includes the F-TYPE sports car (starting at Rs 1.26 Crore), XJ flagship sedan (starting at Rs 1.02 crore), F-PACE SUV (starting at Rs 68.40 Lakh), the locally manufactured XF mid-level sedan (starting at Rs 47.50 Lakh) and the new XE (starting at Rs 37.25 Lakh) [all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi].
