Italian two-wheeler maker Ducati on Wednesday launched its two new entry-level motorcycles, the Monster 797 and Multistrada 950 in the Indian market at a price tag of Rs 7.77 lakh and Rs.12.50 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Both the two-wheelers are the most affordable in its family and will expand Ducati portfolio more accessible in the country. Ducati first showcased the new Monster 797 and small engine-powered Multistrada 950 bikes at the EICMA show 2016 in November.
Ducati Monster 797
Design wise, the elegant and muscular Ducati Monster 797 is based on a traditional Tubular Steel Trellis frame with cast aluminium double-sided swingarm. The Ducati Monster 797 comes equipped with a wide handlebar, LCD instrument cluster, a beefy fuel tank, 10-spoke light alloy front wheel, LED headlamp with DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) and an LED tapered tail lamp as well.
Talking about its mechanical department, the all new Monster 797 is powered by an air-cooled 803 cc Desmodue twin cylinder Euro IV compliant engine that produces 75hp of peak power at 8,250 rpm and 69 Nm of maximum torque at 5,750 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
In terms of safety, the Monster 797 is equipped with a fully adjustable 43mm “Kayaba USD” front fork. Safety features also include 2 x 320 mm semi-floating front discs, radially mounted Brembo Monobloc M4.32 callipers and Bosch 9.1 MP ABS as standard equipment for ensuring maximum safety. Further, its rear brake comes with a 245 mm disc, 1-piston calliper with Bosch ABS as standard equipment. The Monster 797 will be made available in three colour combination variants: Star White Silk, with red frame and wheels, Smart Dark Stealth with black frame and wheels, and The classic Ducati Red, with black frame and wheels.
Ducati Multistrada 950
Design wise, the Multistrada 950 combines Multistrada 1200 and Multistrada 1200 Enduro design features to perfection, capturing the “lightest” elements from both Ducati’s Multistrada lineup. The front-on view, with the distinctive headlight, ‘beak’, adjustable screen, two ‘wings’ and tank come from the Multistrada 1200. The rider’s seat with narrow mid-section, the passenger seat, rear grab rail, the design of the exhaust and swingarm and the wheel sizes were, instead, taken from the Multistrada 1200 Enduro.
In terms of power, the Multistrada 950 is powered by the existing 937 cc liquid-cooled Testastretta, twin-cylinder Euro IV compliant engine that generates 113hp of peak power at 9,000 rpm and 96.2 Nm of maximum torque at 7,750 rpm and is also mated to a 6-speed transmission. Like all Multistrada models, Ducati Multistrada 950 features 4 riding modes- Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro.
In terms of safety, the 2017 Ducati Multistrada 950 is equipped with a fully adjustable KYB 48 mm USD fork and a remote spring rear shock with adjustable preload and rebound. Safety features also include 2 x 320 mm semi-floating front discs, radially mounted Brembo Monobloc callipers and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as well as DTC (Ducati Traction Control) for ensuring maximum safety. Further, its rear brake comes with a 265 mm disc, 2-piston floating calliper, with ABS as standard equipment. The Ducati Multistrada 950 will be made available in two colour options: classic Ducati Red and stylish Star White Silk. Both colour schemes feature matte grey frame and wheels.
