German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday expanded its luxury SUV portfolio with the launch of two new performance AMG products- Mercedes AMG GLS 63 and Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Edition 463’ in the Indian four-wheeler market. The company claims that the two new SUVs have expanded Mercedes-Benz’s SUV portfolio to eight, which is the highest number in the luxury segment. The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 is priced at Rs. 1.58 crore, while the Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Edition 463’ is available at Rs 2.17 crore (all prices are mentioned Ex-showroom, Pune).

Engine & Power

Starting with the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, it comes with a 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine that generates 585bhp of peak power against the peak torque of 760 Nm. The engine is mated to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheels. The SUV offers five driving modes including Individual, Comfort, Slippery, Sport and Sport+. The new sporty SUV also gets the unique AMG Ride Control sports suspension setup with Active Curve Control System roll stabilisation that provides high-level driving dynamics. The new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 needs only 4.6 seconds to reach 100kmph from engine start and has an electronically restricted top speed of 270km per hour. Further, the vehicle comes with a permanent AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system that is equipped with a discrete transfer case: in the interests of higher agility, the torque has a rear-biased split of 40:60 between the front and rear axle.

Exterior & Interior Features

Being a luxury SUV member, the new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 sports various exciting features such as LED Intelligent Light System with integrated LED DRLs, Titanium Grey painted 21-inch AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels, Chrome fins, Red painted brake callipers, ORVM logo projectors, Panoramic sliding sunroof, Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, AMG Bodystyling kit, Mirror package including brand logo projection, Rain-sensing windshield wipers, Anti-theft protection package and Easy-Pack tailgate with electrically operated opening and closing functions.

Inside the cabin, the new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 houses a Black nappa leather coated AMG Performance steering wheel, Harmon Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, Temperature-controlled cup holder, Thermotronic automatic climate control, Multicontour front seats with massage function, Easy Entry system power release, Electrically foldable seats (Second row), Luxury head restraints and seat cushion depth adjustment.

Safety Features

In terms of safety, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 offers 7 Airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), ESP stability control, EBA (Electronic Brake Assist) with Cross-Traffic Function, Parking pilot with 360-degree rear view camera and Parking Sensor (Front & Rear). However, the Mercedes AMG GLS 63 SUV packs the perfect mix of style, luxuriousness, performance and sportiness which are all associated with the Mercedes-Benz and AMG brands.

Engine & Power

Moving on the Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Edition 463’, it was first launched globally in 2015, and now it has launched in India for pay tribute to the iconic G-Wagen’s 35-year-old history and “463” is just a model code. The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 is powered by the same supercharged 5.5-litre BITURBO V8-petrol engine that generates 572bhp of peak power at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 760 Nm at 5000 rpm. All that power and torque is sent to all four wheels via an AMG Speedshift-plus 7G-tronic automatic gearbox. The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 needs only 5.4 seconds to reach 100kmph from engine start and has an electronically restricted top speed of 210km per hour. The performance Mercedes-AMG G 63 also comes equipped with a combination of three 100% differential locks, an off-road reduction gear and the Electronic Traction System 4ETS that makes for outstanding off-roading capabilities. The SUV has a total load capacity of 2250 litres and a maximum towing capacity of 3500 kg.

Exterior & Interior Features

Talking about its exterior design, the Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Edition 463’ comes with a Stainless-steel underride guard, Matte Black finished 21-inch 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels with a glossy rim flange, AMG Sport strips on flanks, a Chrome bumper guard and Dark aluminium finished exterior protective strips. Inside the cabin, the special edition of the Mercedes G63 AMG features a Single-tone dashboard in black designo leather, Dual-tone designo black or light brown leather seat upholstery with side bolsters in black carbon leather and Dual-tone finished centre console. The performance SUV also gets Colour-coordinated topstitching on dashboard, Handbrake, and Armrest. Other features on the Mercedes-AMG G63 include Front and rear door handles, Seat covers and head restraints front and rear, AMG carbon-fibre trim and Door centre panels in exclusive designo leather.
