After launching the E220d luxury sedan and GLS 63 and G 63 ‘Edition 463’ SUV in India last month, German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday launched the facelift version of its popular compact SUV, called the “Mercedes-Benz GLA” facelift in the Indian four-wheeler market at a starting price of Rs. 30.65 lakh (Ex-showroom, All-India). First unveiled at the 2017 North American Auto Show, in Detroit, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with improved styling, exciting features, and a host of smart and luxury equipment. The new facelifted GLA has been offered by the company in one petrol variant — the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 Sport and three diesel variants – the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d Style, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d Sport and the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d 4MATIC. The new 2017 GLA has been assembled at the company’s Chakan-based manufacturing plant near Pune in Maharashtra, India. The new Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift is now available in five body colour options including Jupiter Red, Cirrus White, Mountain Grey, Polar Silver and Canyon Beige.

Power
Talking about its mechanical department, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV is powered by a 2.1-litre turbo diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel engine generates 134 bhp of peak power against the peak torque of 300 Nm in FWD version while the same engine produces 168 bhp of peak power against the peak torque of 350 N in AWD version. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine develops a maximum power of 181 bhp along with a maximum torque of 300 Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheels.

Exterior & Interior Features
Being a luxury compact SUV, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA sports various exciting features such as LED headlamps with sharper Daytime running lights (DRLs), LED tail lamps, panoramic sunroof and 18-inch 5 spoke alloy wheels that are shod with 235/50 R18 tyres. The new facelifted GLA gets a revamped front bumper with a new fog lamp cluster, wider air intakes and a new grille design with chain-link chrome elements. Mercedes has increased the ground clearance of the new GLA compact SUV by 30mm. Dimensionally, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA measures 4,424mm in length, 1,804mm in width and 1,494mm in height and has a long wheelbase of 2,699mm.
Talking about its interior, the new facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLA houses an 8-inch infotainment system that supports Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other luxury features offered by the SUV include a revised instrument console with new dials, Power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, Stainless steel pedals, 12 step ambient lighting, and two zone climate control.
Safety Features
In terms of safety, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift offers various safety features including 6 Airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), ESP stability control, Acceleration Skid control, Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Adaptive Braking, Hill-Start Assist, a 360-degree parking camera with a bird’s eye view and electric tailgate with motion detection, Parking Sensors and Keyless entry.
In the Indian lucrative market, the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA compact luxury SUV will compete against the BMW X1, Audi Q3, newly launched Volkswagen Tiguan and the Mini Countryman.
