After launching the E4 Plus smartphone in India last month, Lenovo-backed Motorola on Tuesday officially announced the launch of its two new mid-range smartphones — the “Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus” in the Indian tech market. The Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus are mid-range smartphones that basically aimed at mainstream smartphone buyers in developing markets. Both the smartphones come equipped with an all-metal unibody design, stunning Full-HD display, a blazing fast octa-core processor, Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, and a decent 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging technology support for fast charging. As for pricing, the new Moto G5S has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 13,999, while the bigger variant Moto G5S Plus has been priced at Rs. 15,999. Both the smartphones will be made available for purchase in India starting today midnight (11:59 pm IST) exclusively via e-commerce website Amazon.in. Note that, the Moto G5S Plus is an online exclusive smartphone, so it will be available exclusively via Amazon.in starting from today midnight (11:59 pm IST) in Lunar Gray and Blush Gold colour options. On the other hand, the Moto G5S will be available for purchase starting today midnight via both the e-commerce website Amazon.in as well as all leading offline retail stores across the country in Lunar Gray and Fine Gold colour options.
As a part of an introductory offer, those consumers, who purchase a Moto G5S or Moto G5S Plus, they will get a Moto Sports headphones at a discounted price of Rs. 499. Additionally, the Reliance Jio users who subscribe to Jio Prime membership will also get up to 50GB of additional 4G mobile data on the purchase of newly launched Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus. Other launch offers on the smartphones include no cost EMIs on all credit cards, up to 80 percent off (up to Rs. 300) on the Amazon Kindle app, and Rs. 1,000 off on exchanging your old smartphone. Besides this, the company also slashed the price of its Moto G5 Plus, which was launched in India at Rs. 15,999. The Moto G5 Plus will now be available in India at Rs. 14,999.
Design:
In terms of design, both the smartphones have a sophisticated metal design (“crafted from a single piece of high-grade aluminium”) and front-mounted fingerprint sensor on the capsule-sized physical home button too. Moto G5S is very identical to the Moto G5S Plus with respect to design. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are all placed on the right-hand edge of the devices and a 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the very top edge. Both the handsets sports front LED flash that is housed on the top panel of the display, while the rear panel of the devices features a Motorola’s traditional circular camera unit along with a LED flash. The speaker grille is seen on the very bottom edge of the smartphones along with a microUSB 2.0 charging port sitting in the middle. Both the Moto G5S smartphones feature onscreen navigation buttons.
Moto G5S Specifications and Features:
In terms of specifications, the smaller version of Motorola G5S series, the Moto G5S comes equipped with a 5.2-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance Corning Gorilla glass 3 coating on top of the display. Under the hood, the Moto G5S is powered by a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 505 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the device is backed up by a 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Moto G5S runs on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box.
In terms of optics, the Moto G5S features a 16-megapixel rear sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), an LED flash module and full-HD (1080p) video recording support. On the front, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture, fixed focus and an LED flash for capturing bright selfies and video calling even in low light conditions.
In terms of connectivity, the Moto G5S offers various connectivity options including Dual-SIM configuration, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the device is fuelled by a decent 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging support. The company claims that the TurboPower feature on the Moto G5S provides up to 5 hours of battery life on 15 minutes of charging. Sensors on the smartphone include a Fingerprint (front-mounted) sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient Light Sensor, and Proximity sensor. Dimensionally, the Moto G5S measures 150 x 73.5 x 8.2mm and weighs 157 grams.
Moto G5S Plus Specifications and Features:
Moving on the bigger version, the Moto G5S Plus flaunts a 5.5-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance Corning Gorilla glass 3 coating on top. Under the hood, the Moto G5S Plus is powered by a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clubbed with Adreno 506 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the smartphone comes loaded with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Moto G5S Plus also runs on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.
For photography, the Moto G5S Plus houses a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with a 13-megapixel RGB sensor and a 13-megapixel Monochrome sensor. The rear camera features include an f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash and 4K video recording (30fps) support.
