The latest Nougat 7.1.1 update for Google Android will be released on December 5 for the Nexus 6P, according to Vodafone Australia.
The latest update will take up about 650 MB, and will be released with the build number NMF26F. The OTA update also includes the security patch for December 2016. Based on the time difference, it will be available on the 6th of December rather than the 5th in certain countries.
The update will not be available to all users of the Nexus 6P at the same time, however. During the first three days, 10,000 phones will be randomly selected to receive the update. Users will either be alerted, or will have to check manually. Over the next 10 days, 10 per cent of the remaining users will receive the updates, and they will have to check manually for the notification. From the 14th day after the initial release, all Nexus 6P devices will become eligible for the update.
Currently, Nougat 7.1 is available exclusively for Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Yet, with the latest update reaching the Nexus 6P, it is believed that it will soon be available to all Nexus and Pixel devices.
New features in the 7.1.1 update include a 3D Touch feature similar to Apple’s, image keyboards, and the ability for developers to add app shortcuts.
Meanwhile, most non-Google Android devices are yet to receive a Nougat update. However, the 7.1.1 update is expected to be the official software devices are updated to, rather than 7.1, according to Yahoo! Tech.
