ATM’s have become an integral part of our life and have saved many people from emergencies. And with demonetisation’s effect in the country, ATM is probably the most visited place in a day.
The INS Vikramaditya was bought by the Indian Government on 20th January,2004, after many years of negotiations for a price of $2.35 billion. It is an aircraft-carrying warship that was brought into India in the year 2013 and was then named INS Vikramaditya.
Interestingly, this warship is the pioneer in our country to bear an ATM inside the ship itself. The ship usually passes through various small ports and makes it difficult for the crew to locate nearby ATMs. This initiative has been implemented by the State Bank of India and the services would be monitored through satellite links.
The ship that is said to have 1500 on-board might accommodate 2000 inmates when the ship sets sail. This new idea of installing an ATM inside the ship’s premises has been happily welcomed by the crew since they are relieved from the burden of searching for ATMs.
The ATM is said to be functional from tomorrow (21st of January 2017). The ship that is 285 metres long and 60 meters wide has 23 decks and is the 3rd ship in India of its kind to be a aircraft carrier.
Indian Navy Spokesperson Captain D K Sharma said that the ship is based in Karwar, Karnataka and every time when sailors wanted to access money they had to travel 4-5 kilometres. Considering all the hardships faced by the crew members, the government has introduced this satellite-tracked ATM.
