Ever since the press screenings for Wonder Woman were held a while back and the subsequent review embargo was lifted, the response for the DC Comics superhero film has been unanimously stupendous. And, that said, the film which went open to audiences worldwide yesterday has been receiving stellar feedback from fans.
Meanwhile, there has been talk for a while now regarding a potential sequel on the iconic comicbook superhero, who now has formed the TRINITY joining the likes of other celebrated superheroes namely Superman and Batman.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, there are reports now stating both filmmaker Patty Jenkins and actress Gal Gadot have been signed on for a sequel. Coming to think of it, this isn’t really much of a surprise since studios will want to lock their big players early on when a film hits the jackpot. The intention would be carry the momentum forward.
What’s most interesting about this highly likely sequel now is the time period in which it will be set. We know the Wonder Woman film released yesterday is an outright origin story on the Princess of Themyscira set during World War 1 and it now remains to be seen how Patty Jenkins, the studios and their writing teams bring forward a story for the sequel that is in line with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
It must be noted that Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are currently shuffling multiple DC Comics-related properties namely Justice League releasing this November followed by Aquaman, The Flash, Shazam, Batman, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps, Cyborg, Nightwing, Black Adam, Man of Steel sequel, Justice League Dark, Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens.
We will know in the coming days how things shape up.
