Even though Zebra Crossings are made for a reason people rarely consider them and deliberately cross the line. This intends to create a lot of problems for people who want to cross the road. The ignorance towards the Zebra crossings sometimes leads to fatal accidents.
That’s why New Delhi decided to paint 3D crosswalks in the city. These 3D crosswalks create an optical illusion for drivers and they either slow down their cars or come to a stop. Now following New Delhi’s lead a small town in Iceland called Ísafjördur has also painted these 3D crosswalks.
Have a look.
Inspired by New Delhi, India
The environmental commissioner of Iceland saw the 3D crosswalk project of New Delhi and got inspired by it.
Implemented in Iceland
He then decided to implement it in a small town in Iceland for the testing.
Optical illusion
These 3D Zebra Stripes are a cleverly-detailed optical illusion which causes fast drivers to come to a sudden halt.
Floating Zebra Stripes
It makes a driver think that there are floating Zebra Stripes in the middle of the road making them slow down at the crossing.
Also in Ahmedabad, India
Something similar was also carried out in Ahmedabad, India.
Beijing also has it
In Beijing also the government decided to try it out and it turned out to be a big success there.
Smart way of traffic control
This is a smart initiative and should be carried out all around the world. It is a very effective way of controlling traffic and avoiding accidents.
No more crossing lines
This will make drivers come to terms with traffic rules and they will not cross the line (pun intended).
Creative and helpful
The drivers are caught off guard as these 3D crosswalks are quite tricky. They are quite creative and are extremely helpful when it comes to road safety.
Don’t get distracted by this illusion
The ones in Iceland are quite quirky though and appears like floating Zebra Stripes. But as far as they help to minimise the careless driving they are good.
