PV Sindhu Wins China Open Super Series final

India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu defeated South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in 84 minutes to gain entry into the final of China Open Superseries, in the hope of winning her maiden Super Series title.

PV Sindhu will be battling for the title on Sunday against the local Chinese badminton player Sun Yu making this the third consecutive year in which an Indian shuttler has been a finalist in the Chinese Open. Saina Nehwal had won the tournament in 2014 but was a runner-up in 2015 after being defeated by China’s Li Xuerui.

The Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu, became the best performer among Indian shuttlers at the Summer Games. Keeping her nerve even after being 17-20 down, the ace Indian shuttler won four consecutive crucial points to secure her place in the final.

Over a breathtaking rally for match point, PV Sindhu pulled off an unanswerable cross court smash against Hyun, in a match where the Korean’s unforced errors cost her a place in the finals. Sindhu climbed back from an initial deficit, and her first ever Super Series win is now in sight.

According to The Indian Express, her opponent, Sun Yu is an up and coming player in Chinese badminton and has already made her mark by rising to number nine in the rankings and is seeded eighth at the China Open Super Series.

PV Sindhu had reached the Super Series final at te Denmark Open last year, but the title eluded her as she lost in straight games to 2012 Olympic champion China’s Li Xuerui, reported NDTV Sports.
