The first episode of “Koffee With Karan” – season 5 kickstarted with a bang as Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhat inaugurated the season premiere and we couldn’t help falling head-over-heels in love with King Khan again!
Right from showcasing his Shakespearan oratory to his vast pop culture knowledge, Shah Rukh took on the show with a magnificence only a star can exude.
Below are five moments from the show that will make you go weak in the knees and remind you just how amazing the Badshah of Bollywood is!
- When TRP and Shah Rukh became directly proportional to each other!
If you’ve been following Koffee With Karan closely, you’ll remember Shah Rukh didn’t make it to the show last season. There was much gossip about how SRK and Karan weren’t on good terms and “conjecture” about the two fighting which resulted in Shah Rukh shunning the show.
The air was cleared by SRK himself. When Karan asked him why he didn’t come to the show last season, he said matter-of-factly:
“Because I wanted the TRPs to drop a little…of this show. Because I had taken them so high in the first one.”
- When he joked about justifying his “nationalism”
As Karan continued to talk about all that was being written about him and Shah Rukh Khan not being on good terms and how he finds himself justifying how much he actually loves him, SRK had a snarky reply:
“I recently read an interview of yours Karan, where you’re saying I’m your source of strength and love and all of that – it’s really sad – I have to justify my “nationalism” and you have to justify your love for me.”
Ha!
- When he made Karan a little uncomfortable with his jokes
SRK went on to egg Karan about proving his love for him.
“Maybe you should just release our kissing pictures now. Release our nudes, and even our marriage pictures.”
“Just say it.”
- When he got uncomfortable talking about Alia’s boyfriends & showed off his protective-daddy side
Shah Rukh Khan is a classic, old-school gentleman! When Karan and Alia started discussing her boyfriends and rumors, SRK started to blush adorably and immediately wanted to hide his face behind the huge coffee mug because apparently, he is just awkward about discussing someone’s personal life.
Also, he thinks having four boyfriends by the time you hit 23 is “a lot” and he would rip off the lips of a boy that kissed Suhana, his daughter.
Karan described SRK as a territorial, protective father and accused SRK of stalking Suhana, to which he had the perfect reply:
“I just walk into her room and go, “I love you S S S…Suhana.”
- When he had the perfect words of wisdom
When Karan asked Shah Rukh where he thought he stood currently in life, SRK said:
“At rest, but not at peace.”
“Because peace is boring. I tell everyone, when people ask me are you happy, I say I am not stupid enough to be happy.”
Also speaking about having a few bad movies in his career, he advised Alia to never look down upon anything. He explained how he was a English Theater elitist and was hesitant about doing Hindi films in the beginning but later realized the essence of the industry.
He spoke highly of Alia as an actor and had some good advice for her:
“Alia is too good too soon. I don’t want her to get trapped in just doing great acting without experiencing everything in Indian cinema. If you become too good too soon, you may have inhibitions being bad at times. It’s really wonderful to be bad at times.”
BONUS POINT: When he invented a WORD.
