The upcoming action thriller Mersal is one of the few films this year that has generated quite a lot of curiosity among fans. With the album scored by Academy Award-winning composer turning out to be a chart-buster hit, the next stop is the film’s theatrical release on Diwali day later this month.
With the film’s release in less than two weeks, Mersal has now undergone the censor certification process. And, the result is one that was most unexpected. The Atlee-directed film has now been officially given a U/A certificate by the CBFC.
It is believed the film could have intense and powerful action sequences and the teaser released few days back did drop quite a lot of hints. It must be noted that this is the first time in nearly 9 years that a ‘Thalapathy’ film has been certified with a U/A certificate after his Vettaikaaran in late 2009.
Despite the certification, we can no doubt expect a cracker of an audience turnout when the film arrives in theatres on October 18 as Vijay commands an army of fans across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The 100th production of Thenandal Studios Limited, Mersal features an ensemble casting talent with the likes of SJ Suryah as the antagonist, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menen and Kajal Aggarwal as the female leads along with Sathyaraj, Kovai Sarala, Vadivelu, Sathyan, ‘Motta’ Rajendran among others in vital supporting roles.
