After a series of many leaks and revelations, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus on Tuesday confirmed that the much-awaited flagship smartphone and successor to the OnePlus 3/ 3T from last year, which is dubbed to be called the OnePlus 5, will make its debut on the tech market sometime later this month. The company has just announced that it will officially launch its next flagship smartphone on June 20 at 12 PM EDT (9:30 PM IST). In the recent teaser image, shared by the company, shows that the details of OnePlus 5 launch event with a tagline that reads, “Focus on what matters.” The company has also created a dedicated webpage for the India launch event that shows the company will host a press conference in Mumbai on June 22 (Thursday), 2017 at 2 PM. First OnePlus 5 launch event will be held in New York City on June 20 and after that, the Chinese company will host pop-up events in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oulu, Tampere, and Turku. All details are now available on the company’s official website. The upcoming OnePlus flagship phone may cost around $449 (approximately Rs. 29,000/ €400).

So now the question is why OnePlus going straight to 5, apparently skipping OnePlus 4? Because the number four is considered unlucky in China, where OnePlus is based. However, the company said that the naming of its upcoming flagship didn’t factor, but was rather influenced by the number five jersey of former NBA player Robert Horry, who is liked person by a number of OnePlus employees.
However, there are many leaks and rumours about the OnePlus 5 from the last couple of months. OnePlus 5 has been subjected to multiple leaks ahead of the launch which does reveal a gist of all the specifications and features about the upcoming OnePlus flagship device. If the rumours are to be believed, the OnePlus 5 would see a significant overhaul in terms of specifications and arrive with a host of improvements. The main highlights of the device will be its rear dual camera setup and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The Chinese company has collaborated with DxOMark Labs to enhance OnePlus 5 camera quality.
OnePlus 5 specifications:
In terms of specifications, the OnePlus 5 will sport a 5.5-inch full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device will be powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor. In terms of memory, it is expected to come with a 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card. On the software front, the OnePlus 5 will run on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with Oxygen OS 4.0 custom UI skin.

In terms of optics, OnePlus 5 will have a dual rear camera setup combined with 12-megapixel Monochrome and 12-megapixel RGB sensors. On the front, it is said to sport an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. For connectivity, the OnePlus 5 will feature 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, and a USB Type-C port for superfast charging and data transfer. The device will come loaded with a decent a 3,600mAh battery with company’s Dash Charge technology support for fast charging.
