Commenting on the launch programme, Travis Kalanick (CEO of Uber) said, “Hyderabad is perfect for bike-sharing and uberMOTO will help in easing the congestion on Hyderabad roads and ensure last mile connectivity. It has been a wonderful city to do business in and it embraces innovation as much as or more than other cities we have seen around.”
” It’s great to be working with a dynamic and positive thinking government like Telangana on smart mobility solutions which can help to reduce extreme crowd problems in urban areas, I am excited to be in Hyderabad for the launch of uberMOTO service- It’s a quick, convenient and affordable way to get around the city”. Kalanick added.
Uber and his ever competitor Ola launched the bike-sharing option on the same day in Bangalore. After regulatory hurdles popped up, Ola shut down this service without delay, but UBER insisted-until it eventually had to be obstructed.
It is worth noting that the cab aggregator app claims that UberMOTO bike-sharing service will be available in Hyderabad from January,2017 and the bike-sharing will be the same price as those of cars. In Hyderabad user will be charged a base-fare of Rs 20 (30 cents) for the first three km and Rs 5/km after every additional journey.
Same as UBER car taxi rides, users would receive driver and bike details as well as all standard safety features before and after the ride, including GPS tracking system and two-way feedback facility. UberMOTO users can also share their trip details with family and friends. And both the driver and the pillion rider of the motor-bike taxi have to wear helmets as per the law.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri K T Rama Rao, Telangana Cabinet Minister for IT E&C, MAUD, Industries & Commerce said that Telangana is a fast developing “start-up state” which encourages novelty and entrepreneurship to make Hyderabad a lofty global destination.
“Uber has added another feather in our partnership today by launching UberMOTO to help solve the transportation and congestion problems for people in Hyderabad.”Rama Rao said.
