Last week, acclaimed actor Kamal Haasan had expressed his views on the government’s stance to fix the tax slab for the film industry at 28% under the GST.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday asked celebrities not to use the media to try and lower the 28% tax slab by pressurizing the government. He said, “We are reviewing all aspects. However, using the media as a propaganda to pressurize the government is not going to work,”.
In his response, Kamal Haasan took to his Twitter space to state, “Not pressurising. It’s a plea & SOS from regional cinema to our FM We fear it will collapse.We request the council to do all to save it,”.
We will just have to wait and see how things turn out next.
