Soon after launching the Moto Green Pomelo in China, Lenovo-backed Motorola on Wednesday expanded its premium smartphone portfolio with the launch of its latest flagship device, dubbed as the “Moto Z 2018” in the Chinese market. Carried a price tag of CNY 9,999 (approximately Rs. 98,000), the new Moto Z 2018 will soon be available in China only in single Black colour option.
Interestingly, the new smartphone also gets a Moto Z 2018 Kingsman VIP Special Edition as well. The Moto Z 2018 Kingsman VIP Special Edition offers the same specifications and features as the standard edition but comes in a special box. The Kingsman VIP Special Edition comes in a special packaging box that is designed like a briefcase, which contains a VIP card, a TurboPower battery mod, a wireless charging mod, a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio adapter, USB Type-C Hi-Fi headphones, 45th-year-anniversary notepad, a leather flip case and a warranty card. Motorola’s new USB-C-type Hi-Fi headphones come with in-ear style, 120cm long cable and an in-line control with volume rockers and a call button.
In terms of design, the new Moto Z 2018 looks very identical to the company’s recently launched Moto Z2 Force smartphone and other devices in the Moto Z lineup with respect to design. It sports a metal unibody design built from 7000 series aluminium with brushed metal back finish, and all-around antenna line, giving it an overall premium look. The new Moto Z 2018 also features a front-mounted fingerprint sensor, that is housed underneath the capsule-sized physical Home Button of the device. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are all placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphone and a USB Type-C charging port is located on the very bottom edge of the device. Being a USB Type-C 3.1 port based smartphone, the Moto Z 2018 doesn’t feature the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, just like the Moto Z2 Force and HTC U11. The rear panel of the smartphone houses a Motorola’s traditional round rear camera setup, LED flash module and a gold coloured “M” logo, while the top front panel features a selfie camera, dual-LED CCT flash, and an earpiece. The 16-pin magnetic connectors for the Moto Mods are also visible at the rear end of the smartphone.
In terms of specifications, the Motorola Moto Z 2018 comes equipped with a 5.5-inch Quad HD (2K) AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The screen is also protected by the Motorola’s revolutionary shatterproof “ShatterShield” technology, same as the Moto Z Force Droid and Droid Turbo 2. Under the hood, the device powered by a blazing-fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal, which can be further expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Moto Z 2018 runs on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system out of the box.
In terms of optics, the Moto Z 2018 features a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 12-megapixel Monochrome sensor. The rear camera features include Sony IMX386 sensors, an f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash and 4K video recording (30fps) support. On the front, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with OmniVision 5695 sensor, and dual LED flash for capturing bright selfies and making video calls even in low-light situations.
On the connectivity front, the Moto Z2 Force offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port for super-fast charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the device is fuelled by a decent 2730mAh battery with 15W TurboPower charging technology support for fast charging. The battery capacity can be further increased by up to 3,490mAh by attaching a TurboPower battery Mod.
