Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad on Wednesday launched a new smartphone in China, the Cool Play 6. Targeted at gaming enthusiasts, Coolpad Cool Play 6 comes equipped with a massive 6GB of RAM and mammoth sized 4060mAh battery to justify its tag of a gaming phone. The device also packs some decent hardware that can run high-end games such as Nova 5, Asphalt Xtreme, etc. The smartphone has been launched in Black and Soft Gold colour options at a price tag of 1499 Yuan (approximately Rs 14,000/$217). Pre-registration for the smartphone has already begun and it will go on sale onwards May 16 at 10 AM on e-commerce company, Jingdong.
In terms of design, Coolpad Cool Play 6 sports an all-metal unibody design and comes in Black and Gold colour options, according to the provided images. The phone also features dual rear camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, located just under the rear cameras. The volume rockers as well as the power/lock buttons are placed on the right-hand edge of the device and a 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the very top of the phone. This phone also comes with a dual-tone, dual-LED flash sensor which is located next to its rear cameras. And dual speaker grilles are seen at the bottom edge of the device with a USB Type-C port sitting in the middle.

In terms of specifications, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD in-cell display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The phone is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 chipset (Quad 1.95GHz ARM Cortex A72 and Quad 1.44GHz A53) paired with Adreno 510 GPU to handle the graphics. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card. On the software front, the device runs company’s own custom UI, based on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.
In terms of photography, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 features a dual camera setup with two 13-megapixel Sony sensors for monochrome and depth of field functions, similar to the setup seen on Coolpad Cool 1 Dual. The main sensor comes with 6P lens, PDAF, and f/2.0 aperture, autofocus as well as dual-tone LED flash. On the front, there’s an 8-megapixel snapper with f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calls.
In terms of connectivity, this dual SIM smartphone offers 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 ac/a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and USB Type-C port for superfast charging and data transfer. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 comes packed with a powerful 4060 mAh non-removable battery that is rated to deliver up to 252 hours on standby, up to 8 hours of video playback, up to 9 hours of web browsing and and 6 hours of extreme gaming. The handset measures 152 x 75.2 x 8.45mm and weighs 170 grams.
Interestingly, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 is said to come with an inbuilt “intelligent temperature control technology” which ensures that the smartphone doesn’t heat up above a certain level while running heavy games.
