In a shocking and a shameful incident, as many as 70 girls of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School at Digri village were on Thursday stripped naked allegedly by a school principal to check for menstrual blood.
Specs of blood in a bathroom at a residential school in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar made the warden so furious that she allegedly forced some 70 girls to strip to check who was menstruating.
Uttar Pradesh’s Power Minister Shrikant Sharma condemned the shameful incident and said the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a probe by the concerned authorities on Friday after reports that about 70 girls of a residential school in Muzaffarnagar were allegedly forced to strip by the principal who wanted to check for “menstrual blood”.
“There was no teacher around. We were called downstairs. Madam made us to take off our clothes saying she will beat us if we did not. We are kids, what could we do? She would have beaten us had we not obeyed her,” one of the students said.
One girl student said the warden ordered girls to remove their clothes after discovering blood stains in the bathroom. “It was very humiliating for all of us. We want action against her,” the girl said.
Principal-cum-warden Surekha Tomar allegedly threatened the students of dire consequences if they disobeyed her command, district primary education officer Chander Kesh Yadav said.
“We have taken prompt action. A five-member team has been formed. They are investigating the case and the warden will be removed soon. There is zero tolerance towards such acts,” said Mr Yadav.
“No one asked them to remove clothes. All this is a conspiracy by the staff because they do not want me to stay here. I had been asked to check whether the staff were performing their duties. I am strict, that is why they hate me,” she said.
Meanwhile, 35 students of the school left after the reports of harassment by the principal surfaced.
