Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot in Patty Jenkins's Wonder Woman and James Cameron

Before the first ever big-screen adaptation of Wonder Woman this year, the character had already established its fame and popularity in the face of Lynda Carter who played the Amazon Princess on TV during the Seventies. So, it was obvious that her reactions had to come on the continuous criticism for Wonder Woman, by none other the Titanic and Avatar director, James Cameron. And the reactions of Carter were, of course filled with angst.

After his thoughts and ideas that he shared with The Guardian, about how he felt regarding Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman movie (calling it a step backwards), the Terminator director Cameron was criticized across the globe for dissing the character and rather objectifying her as a sexualized female only.

But the most unexpected thing was Cameron’s doubled criticism and stone-remarks that he again threw at Patty Jenkins’s superhero film-in this week, talking to Hollywood Reporter!

This time around, he said that, though, he liked the film, but believed that Princess Diana, played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, was a sexualized character.

“[Gal Gadot] was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting,” he told.

“She’s absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that’s not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the Sixties. It was all in a context of talking about why Sarah Connor — what Linda [Hamilton] created in 1991 — was, if not ahead of its time, at least a breakthrough in its time.”

Linda Hamilton, as Sarah Connor, in Terminator 2: Judgement Day

“Linda looked great, [but] she just wasn’t treated as a sex object. There was nothing sexual about her character. It was about angst, it was about will, it was about determination. She was crazy, she was complicated. She wasn’t there to be liked or ogled, but she was central, and the audience loved her by the end of the film.

So as much as I applaud Patty directing the film and Hollywood, uh, ‘letting’ a woman direct a major action franchise, I didn’t think there was anything groundbreaking in Wonder Woman.”

Lynda Carter has slammed James Cameron for his repetitive negativism on Wonder Woman

After all his words and criticisms, Lynda Carter took to her Facebook page and posted her reply to James Cameron:

‘To James Cameron – STOP dissing [Wonder Woman]: You poor soul. Perhaps you do not understand the character. I most certainly do. Like all women–we are more than the sum of our parts. Your thuggish jabs at a brilliant director, Patty Jenkins, are ill advised. This movie was spot on. Gal Gadot was great. I know, Mr. Cameron–because I have embodied this character for more than 40 years. So–STOP IT.’
