While working on excavating tombs on the banks of River Nile, a team of Swedish archaeologists discovered 12 new tombs. With these newly-discovered tombs, they have also found remains of humans, a cat, sheep or goats, and two headless crocodiles!
This incredible discovery was made at an early sandstone quarry scene known as Gebel el Silsila. These Swedish group of archaeologists have till now excavated more than 45 tombs. Their work has been going on for quite some years now. It was not an easy task for them as they had to battle against an increasing water table as well as the silt-covered tombs.
As reported to FoxNews.Com by John Ward, who is the assistant director of this project, it is now known that these excavated remains of humans have a high possibility of belonging to the ancient workers of this site and he also adds that those ancient workers, when injured, were even given medical treatment. The excavated bodies are covered with a kind of linen; and, as for the two headless crocodiles, it was difficult to conclude if they were placed there by humans or just been pushed there by the water.
This project is headed by Ward and Maria Nilsson. Different kinds of accessories, such as beads, neck pieces, amulets, etc. have been found at the site. These discovered tombs are believed to be about 3,400 years old and John Ward adds that it is phenomenal for the team to have unearthed these priceless tombs, as every archaeologist dreams of being the first one to unearth a tomb, particularly when in Egypt.
