After raising the issue of open defecation with the film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Akshay Kumar is coming with a film titled PadMan which deals with the social issue of sanitary napkins. The film is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham who came up with a revolutionary method of producing cost-effective sanitary napkins. In the film, Akshay is portraying the role of Arunachalam.
As per the statistics, it’s 82% of the female population of our country who don’t have the access to sanitary pads.
While interacting with media, when Akshay was asked was there any one moment that he had that glitch of doing the film, to this the actor replied by saying, “For thirty seconds when I was looking at the pink panty and had to wear the pad – I had that fear and then I was ok.”
The PadMan actor also urges that the sanitary napkins should br free, “It’s need of every day and country. GST should not be there. I will say it should be free. A lot of countries are giving it for free.”
The actor continued by saying, “The biggest victory is that men on social media are talking about sanitary pads. I don’t really care about business. I have made this film in INR 21 crores.”
The Toilet: Ek Prem Katha actor addressing the problem stated, “This problem is there in every country but in ours, it’s huge. It’s an important film. Ye ek aisa mudda hai jo har koi haath nai lagta. I am catering it as a love story with a social message.”
The government should take some measures to make the sanitary napkins free from tax.
