A still from Coco

Walt Disney and Pixar’s animated feature Coco was predicted to be a winner, not only as a film, but also as a box-office turner-even if the battle was against Warner Bros’s & DC’s Justice League! Coco is also rated 96% certified fresh, on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie opened on Wednesday in the US, and grossed around $13.24 million (including Tuesday previews’ $2.3 million)-which is more than the DC flick’s Wednesday earnings of around $10.45 million.

Coco’s wednesday collections were slightly better than the last Disney animation movie Tangled, which had a first day total of $13.2 million. Although, it was a bit short of previous Disney entries, Frozen and Moana’s $15 million+. But it went way above The Good Dinosaur’s $9.8 million on day 1, domestically.

Most surprising thing about Coco was that it also gained an ‘A+ score’ from online site Cinemascore-which is rare!

And if the movie keeps going like it’s started off on the box-office, then it may end its five-day opening debut at around $69 million. And it won’t be bad either, in any way possible, considering the fact it is battling Justice League!

Directed by Lee Unkrich, produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, Coco follows the story of a boy who wants to be a musician but the generations-old ban on music in his family restricts him. The story shows how he accomplishes his dream, fighting off the obstacles, in the end.
