Indians are known for their spice. Spicy curves and lip-smacking gravies are not new to us. Be it any part of the country, spicy food is the key to survival for a majority of Indians. No matter how much we pant, sweat and huff, spicy food will never be omitted from our menu. Here we list some famous Indian dishes to awaken the spicy cravings in you.
LAAL MAAS
The name itself suggests the degree of hotness that is waiting for you. This dish originated in Rajasthan. Traditionally, the hunted boar or deer was cooked with chillies and spices. It was a favourite among the royalty. Though, Rajasthan is dominated by vegetarian delicacies, this is the only non vegetarian dish that is capable of blowing you off. It is a thick gravy mutton curry prepared with hot spices and green chilies with a tinge of curd. The dark red color of gravy comes from a chili called the Mathania red chili from Jodhpur.
CHICKEN CHETTINAD
This is a must try cuisine from Tamil Nadu and considered the spiciest and most aromatic dish in India. Its speciality is gingelly oil which keeps the body cool in warm temperatures. It uses a variety of spices. Usually, a variety of dried meat is added. The meat can be of crab, lobster, chicken and fish. Try it out and set your senses on fire!
RISTA
This is a red hot lamb meatball curry that is rich in aroma . Its origin is Kashmir. Kashmiris are known for their no-vegetarian cooking. Over 30 varieties of meat can be found there. Red chilly powder and other species are commonly used in this. Enjoy with butter naan and get ready to enter a state of tranquility!
CHICKEN VINDALOO
This dish is originally Goan. It is derived from the Portuguese term carne de vinha d’alhos, which literally means “meat in garlic wine marinade”. It is Indianized though with adding red chillies and wine replaced with palm vinegar. The result is lip smacking.
ANDHRA DRY MUTTON
Andhra Pradesh, known for its spices and fiery dishes, does not surprise us with this. Unimaginably spicy, this dry mutton will not fail to evoke fire in your senses.
KOLHAPURI CHICKEN
Last but not the least, the land of spices and chillies, Kohlapur, has produced this exotic, spicy and lip smacking dish. It is stimulating. The ingredients are traditional with a kohlapuri paste and mixture of masalas (spices) known as Kala masala.
